Our verdict

More than a hundred years ago the St. Alban Stübli was a beer parlour, then a neighbourhood tavern, and today it is a restaurant for refined traditional cooking. The current team has run it since August 2017.

If you are looking for a quiet, good evening away from the Old Town lanes, this is the place.

On the plate

The cooking is French-influenced and follows the seasons, with Basel specialities. In autumn the menu features game such as shank of venison and roe deer entrecôte, plus a Swiss beef tartare.

Location

St. Alban-Vorstadt is one of the quietest streets in the city, lined with townhouses between the Kunstmuseum and the St. Alban Gate. Barfüsserplatz is eleven minutes away and Basel SBB station 15 minutes on foot.

Our advice

It is closed at weekends, so plan the Stübli for a weekday evening. For the autumn game season, book early.
